Eugenio Gómez Alatorre
Economist and professor-researcher at Universidad Panamericana. I study the digital economy, industrial organization, and impact evaluation, and I write about it every two weeks in El Financiero.
About me
I earned my PhD in Economics and Business from the Universidad de Navarra, graduating with the highest distinction (Sobresaliente Cum Laude). Before that, I studied at El Colegio de México, worked at Mexico's Ministry of Finance (Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público), and spent a decade as a full-time professor at IPADE Business School, where I was granted tenure. Today I am a professor-researcher at Universidad Panamericana, where I direct the new Master's in Digital Economy.
Research
My research combines applied and causal econometrics —randomized controlled trials, instrumental variables, regression discontinuity, difference-in-differences, synthetic control, and propensity score matching— with questions in industrial organization and the digital economy. A recent line of my work measures the exposure of Latin American labor markets to artificial intelligence.
Teaching
I have taught economics, in English, for more than fifteen years: first as a full-time professor at IPADE Business School and, since 2020, at Universidad Panamericana, where I led the undergraduate Economics program before taking on the direction of the Master's in Digital Economy.
